Leeds City Market

Leeds City Market claims to be the largest covered market in Europe!  They have everything ranging from food to clothing, shoes, bikes, and other kitschy knick knacks.  A good activity for a rainy day (of which here there are many) plus you can get very good deals on food items, especially if you come towards the end of the day!  I loved hearing butchers and producers yelling out their prices as I walked by ~

Broken yolk breakfast

Another noodle favorite...noodles with a fried egg for breakfast. usually I use rice noodles, the thin ones (粉丝) and I put soy sauce, garlic and a little vinegar, plus spice (and sometimes sesame oil).  When the yolk is runny it's soo good to mix it up in the noodles - very Southeast Asian feel.  When I'm with the family, my sisters are always jealous of my Asian breakfast.

oops other morning the yolk broke!

remember to buy organic, cage free eggs, and always local if you can! it's nicer for the chickens, cheaper for you and better for the environment if it's local, and healthier for you x

Easy udon noodle soup

My housemate noticed that I eat noodles almost every day...yes, it's true, they're my favorite! I often make this udon noodle soup for myself for lunch or dinner - it's easy and can be made with tofu, chicken, shrimp or egg, + vegetables - I like cabbage, or seaweed, spinach, whatever you like.  Here I just used some bok choy and tofu.

Shrimp chips - new favorite movie snack!

This past week I went to the asian market here in Leeds which was great, I got to pick up some noodles, tofu and bok choy, and also shrimp chips.  they look like plastic discs at first, a bit suspect, but I love their texture and taste!

just heat some vegetable oil in a wok, til very hot, then (carefully) put the discs in and watch them bloom into these kind of styrofoamy chips!

A delightful english tradition

The other night I saw Gilbert and Sullivan's adorable comic opera, Ruddigore at the Leeds Grand Theatre, (which was not so grand in scale but was very pretty) and before the second act bought some ice cream - a usual theatre treat here, and even better, I could eat it in my seat! Very happy.
my caramel and hazelnut ice cream.
 ice cream + theatre = love x
